Vending Machines: Coined Consumerism is more coffee table art book than the social history of vending machines the product description led me to expect. It’s a curious book, both in the sense that it’s hard to pigeonhole and that it looks at vending machines in original ways. Some of the photographers/artists see the machines as futuristic and daring, such as the machines that vend tiny original artworks or the machines that are more performance art than public convenience. There’s the coffee dispenser that contains an actual woman serving the coffee, for instance.Other artists see the machines as decaying relics of the past. Rust-streaked, with parts missing, advertising products that are obsolete, they look desolate and depressing. I’m pretty sure it was a 1990’s What a cartoon! short, but i can’t remember it’s name or find it. I found someone looking for the same short (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AvErn65Co6VvSP0hZTLAPMsjzKIX;_ylv=3?qid=20090808213254AAoTQtH) but they were told it was an anime, when it is actually a Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy Vending Machine Flush art style. So, these people on a spaceship land on some asteroid thing, and this anoying kid who sound like Grim Adventures Billy finds a vending machine covered in goop, and gets a soda from it. When he gets on the ship, he opens it and finds an alien inside. I’m pretty sure it dies and they flush it down the toilet, but then him and the kid and it combine (i think the kid flushed himself or found it and ate it), and he turns into a blue alien chick. Then for some reason(i forgot) everyone has to get in the escape pod, where the everyone is cramped, and the kid remarks “Captain, i still have to go to the bathroom.” This isn’t outlaw star, because it isn’t an anime. What short was it? anything would help, but i’ve already checked alot of resources.
