A fresh and witty writer, Steve Almond proves he can tell compelling stories about modern life. His perspectives on sex and dating are very funny – mainly becaue everyone can related to them. His writing is similar to Nick Hornby at his edgiest, and at times reminded me of something from the movie “Swingers.” Also reminds me of the new independent film “Time and Tide” starring Chris Heltai.
Is my report good enough?
The “model” is a diorama of the water cycle, transfer of energy, and green roofs that i made with a partner in school… Google the terms if you don’t know any of them… The fridge, microwave and frying pan and stove are in our model and i am describing how they are examples of the transfer of energy. i’m in 7 grade. Written ReportIn our model, we show how the transfer of energy, the water cycle, and green roofs are used in our daily life.A fridge uses convection to cool our food. It sucks in air, and transfers cold particles into the room temperature air. The air is then pumped to the main part of the fridge, and keeps our food cool.A frying pan and a stove are good examples of conduction. The stove heats up and the heat is transferred by touch to the metal frying pan. The handle of the frying pan is coated in an insulator so it does not heat up. Many types of metals are good heat conductors, so conduction happens Metal Life Savers all the time.Radiation is used in a microwave oven. Microwaves (radiation waves) are produced by a special part in the microwave oven, and when they pass through the food, they make the water particles in the food vibrate and produce heat. A green roof is a roof that is partially or completely covered with vegetation. Green roofs are excellent energy savers and greatly improve the environment.Uses of a green roof include controlling storm water runoff, erosion, and pollution, conserving energy and much, much more.Green roofs are exceptional at saving energy and water. They absorb up to 80% of storm water runoff and can make a house or building several degrees cooler than other places at that time of year.The urban heat island effect is also greatly reduced by the use of green roofs. Urban heat island effect happens when an urban area is covering natural land with pavement so daytime heat is trapped in the cement and the area is much hotter than it should be. Green roofs cover pavement, so instead of the heat being absorbed by the pavement, it is absorbed by the plants which use it to make oxygen and keep the building cooler.Our model also shows the water cycle. Water evaporates, forming clouds from condensation. Water then falls to the ground as rain, or precipitation. When the water hits the ground, it becomes ground water. The ground water then becomes absorbed by plant roots. Some of the water is then transpirated by the plants while the rest is drained to a water shed. The cycle is then repeated over and over again.Aishwary: It’s not an experiment, but i think i should include a conclusion o_o thanks.and an intro…Then again, in the paper i got explaining the project, it says that the report juts has to explain the model and the vocab (i.e. conduction, convection, green roofs, condensation, etc.)…Hrmph. I think i’ll still see if i can squeeze at least a conclusion in there…
