A grumpy lion confronts Sarah when she is walking along singing in his jungle. First the lion objects to the idea of walking: Nobody in his jungle walks, he say, “We run, sprint, prowl, creep, swing, lumber, slither, swoop, gallop and scuttle.” Sarah tells the lion that she is sorry, “I didn’t mean to bother you” she says. A lively, cartoon like double spread shows various animals doing these motions. The lion then asks what sound she was making, and she replies that she was singing. “Singing! Nobody here just sings. We roar, yowl, grunt, chatter, buzz trumpet, hiss, growl, pant, and harrumph.” Sarah apologizes again, but this time, the lion tells her that he is going to eat her. Fortunately, Sarah has a skill – drawing and she quickly draws a picture of each animal: The lion is surprised to see him represented as angry, and decides to change his behavior so that the next time that Sarah visits; she can draw a new picture of the lion in which he is happy. The illustrations are lively
